Tasty Thursday - Review: Coffee Elements, All Seasons Place, Penang

Although I rarely drink coffee, I adore coffee joints. Something about the way these coffee places are kitted out just allows me to wind down and relax - you know what I mean.

Pretty, pretty.
L - R (clockwise): Healthy Vegemite; Mozarella Cheese; Cafe Latte; Nutella Chocolate

It's such a pleasure when they make your cup of coffee a mini work of art. Bonus points to Coffee Elements for extending coffee art to the humble cup of hot chocolate.

I might revisit this place just for a cuppa and maybe, try a slice of their cakes.

Tasty Thursday - Review: Roti Canai in Georgetown, Penang

Many people have waxed lyrical about the roti canai from Transfer Road - claiming that it is the best roti canai on the Island, if not, Georgetown. Naturally, I had to try it out.

Don't waste your time trying this canai.

Oh those poor souls - you don't know what a good piece of roti canai is. The Transfer Road roti canai that I had was tough and cold, and the dhal was completely watered down. Maybe if I had ordered the roti canai to be drowned in the various curries it would have gone down a whole lot better. Considering that roti canai is the sole produce being sold by this stall, it should have been much better.

I also have to add that the service is quite slow. When I asked for an additional sambal, the stall worker glared at me and told me off for just ordering dhal only earlier on. By the time I got my sambal, I was nearly done eating my roti canai.

Not a trip worth repeating. (Especially since parking is not easily available to access this road-side stall)

Then recently, during my hunt for breakfast around Georgetown, I discovered a road-side stall along Lebuh Buckingham, a short distance from Masjid Kapitan Keling.

Oh so good!
L-R (clockwise): Teh tarik; Roti Telur, Curry; Roti Pisang
(All of the above and a glass of iced tea = RM7.80)
Oh my - roti canai perfection. And the curry was amazing. This is the roti canai that people should sing songs about!

Fyi, both of these were consumed during breakfast hours. I wouldn't be sure if these stalls are opened at other times of the day.

Happy food hunting, my loves!

Weekend Reads #1: Infinity (The Chronicles of Nick)

A work-in-progress these couple of years, for me, has been to read more. Although I haven't actually managed to get back into the habit with as much gusto as I would have liked, I have been taking baby-steps :) #yay!progress

Recently, I picked up the first three books in a Young Adult series, The Chronicles of Nick. I'm three quarters done with the first book, Infinity; and unfortunately I do not find myself drawn to the story line. I am however, hoping that I will grow to like the series. #hangintherebaby

So I think I'll leave the summary and my thoughts on the book till later, and (hopefully) allow the story to grow on me.

Here's to hoping I'll get into it.

Tasty Thursday - Review: I Mum Mum, All Seasons Place, Penang

When I first relocated to the island I constantly craved pan mee - specifically the dry kind. Now, it is not impossible to find pan mee here, but finding one that meets my standards is quite a problem.

For a while I floundered around with mediocre pan mee and then I discovered I Mum Mum. Ohh, the noodle texture is perfection and the price just can't be beat. Plus, the shop is clean - and let me tell you, good hygiene is sexy!

Spicy Chilli Pan Mee (RM4.50)
Crispy Pork Pan Mee - glorious! (RM5)

Pair any of the pan mee options, topped with a quivering poached egg, and a glass of iced cane juice - instant food coma.

Now I'm off to get myself a bowl of that deliciousness!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Tasty Thursday - Review : Ben's General Food Store, Bangsar Village

So, recently I met up with a friend at Ben's General Food Store (hereinafter "Ben's") in Bangsar Village as the originally planned, Plan B was packed. (Side story, Plan B and Ben's are under the same company.)

I was feeling a little under the weather and decided to order something healthier than usual. I present the selected menu:

Mushroom lasagne, with a side Caesar Salad and Ben's Iced Tea.

The caesar salad was awesome, the lettuce was fresh and the salad sauce was yummy, although they could have been a bit more generous with it. I also like the gruyere chip (singular) served in the salad for that extra salty crunch - yum.

On the other end of the scale, the mushroom lasagne was slightly warm bordering on cold when I put my fork into it, and it was a tad bit dry for my liking.

Ben's Iced Tea is basically iced green tea with lemons and limes, something my throat sorely needed.

Based on the meal mentioned above, I highly doubt that I will be going back to Ben's anytime soon. Personally, I will wait it out for a table at Plan B.
